There should be support groups. I swear, one good sermon from a Baptist preacher can do more damage to a little kid than all the spankings/detentions/whatever childhood trauma you care to mention in the world. Or Chick Tracts, actually. Those are worse, because they always end in hellfire, and the logic purported is to bolster obedience (to what seems even more arbitrary now than it did then), rather than Love, Faith (except blind, obedient faith), Charity, Hope, or anything of value.
It's just, "Our side is going to Heaven, because we said The Right Words, and nothing we do can ever be wrong again. Your their side is going to Hell, because they aren't on our side, and so nothing they do can ever be right, ever." It's not Christianity, it's playground bickering. Except the ending is The Eternal Lake of Fire and Torment. And infinity is a long time. (Our pastor used to say that, a lot. The day it finally sank in... eeeeek.)
